Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST)
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle, light-touch and fully clothed table therapy that supports and amplifies the underlying health inherent in the body. It can be helpful for nervous system regulation, stress relief, headaches/migraines, sleep and digestive issues, release of muscular and fascial tensions, post-injury recovery, chronic pain and more. Through precise and subtle hand placements, the work invites the body’s habits and patterns to release, reorganize and resolve. Most people find the treatment restful and restorative, and clients may experience profound and lasting effects. Please note: BCST treatments are fully clothed, not massage therapy and not eligible for insurance reimbursement.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Performed by a Registered Craniosacral Therapist (RCST ®)
BCST is a body-centred, client-centred, and trauma-informed practice, grounded in anatomy and physiology, that supports and amplifies the natural forces of health in the human body.
A Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist is trained to meet the client’s body with neutrality, presence, sensitivity, and receptivity. Through anatomical and physiological understanding combined with highly specific perceptual awareness, the therapist tracks the inner dynamics of the body, establishing a relational field in which the body’s intelligence and health can emerge.
The therapist’s non-imposing touch allows the body’s holding patterns to emerge. As these patterns are expressed and acknowledged through touch in the therapeutic process, the work tends to bring about a sense of ease, balance, fluidity, groundedness, and overall greater health.
BCST offers a complementary paradigm as a treatment modality, valuing the body’s innate capacity to self-regulate. Rather than the therapist “working on” the client’s body, BCST switches the script to focus on “working with” the client’s body, inviting it to yield to therapeutic touch and move toward balance and resolution.
The work has its lineage in North American osteopathic medicine and acknowledges influences from certain Indigenous healing practices.
What should I expect at a treatment?
The client lies fully clothed on a massage table and the therapist makes hands-on contact with specific body structures (bones, tissues, fascia, etc.) or regions (head, back, diaphragm, etc.). The work is called “craniosacral” therapy because of its focus on the core midline structures of the body – head, spine, pelvis, and central nervous system. However, specific contact may be made at a variety of points from head to toe and from torso to limbs, with the understanding that everything is interconnected.
As the client’s body responds to the touch, the therapist moves through a series of specific holds following the emergent process in a treatment session. The stability, awareness, stillness, and space offered by the therapist’s informed, neutral touch allows the body’s systems to mobilize toward health and homeostasis, gradually resolving tensions and re-establishing balance.
How long is a session?
Treatments typically last about 50 minutes, with a verbal check-in and check-out. The therapist may make recommendations for maintenance between treatments and may suggest a series of follow-up sessions to support the process of release and resolution in the client’s system. Frequently, a series of treatments in close succession is an effective approach to address a particular issue, followed by regular monthly maintenance treatments according to the client’s needs.
What should I wear?
Clients are encouraged to wear clothing that ensures comfort and ease of movement.
Please Note: BCST is not currently covered by conventional employer insurance plans. However, it may be eligible under custom plans and/or as a complementary therapy. Please check with your employer or Health Plan provider.
